Mission & Governance


The primary objectives and purposes of The Clay Mathematics Institute are:

The CMI will further the beauty, power and universality of mathematical thought.


The Clay Mathematics Institute is governed by its board of directors, scientific advisory board, and president. Board meetings are held to consider nominations and research proposals and to conduct other business, usually four times a year. The Scientific Advisory Board is responsible for the approval of all proposals and of the selection of all nominees.

The Institute is a tax-exempt charitable organization (private operating foundation) that can receive tax-deductible contributions from the public. Documents required to be available for public inspection can be reviewed by arrangement at CMI's offices.
