Arnold Diffusion

A cooperative program presented by the American Institute of Mathematics, the Clay Mathematics Institute and the Department of Mathematics, Princeton University

Dates: October 1 - December 10, 2002
Location: Princeton University (Princeton, NJ)

The purpose of this program is to bring together researchers with interests and expertise in the various aspects of the study of the problem of diffusion in Hamiltonian systems. These researchers work primarily in the areas of dynamical systems, symplectic geometry and variational methods. The goals of the program include addressing a specific set of problems, focused on the Arnold conjecture on diffusion in near integrable Hamiltonian systems, understanding the interplay among different approaches, geometric and variational, to these questions, and introducing young mathematicians, including graduate students, and mathematicians from outside these fields to this important area of research.
